Melbourne Square review: “Melbourne Square is a unique project in Australia,” Amin, owner

- 16/07/2021

Life inside the Square with resident Amin

Since immigrating to Australia from Pakistan, Amin and his wife Sidra have both come to love everything the inner-city suburb of Southbank has to offer.

Having lived in Southbank previously, Amin and Sidra upgraded from their old apartment to a new larger Melbourne Square residence as they welcomed their first child into the world.

Keen to learn more about Amin and Sidra’s story and experiences at our growing precinct, Melbourne Square caught up with the young couple to chat about what they love most about the project and how they have settled into their new home.

What drew you to buying at Melbourne Square?

A: My wife Sidra and I have called Southbank home for some time now and absolutely love the area. We previously lived in the Central Equity building just around the corner from Melbourne Square, so we feel like we know the suburb well and we have always wanted to keep living here, even as our living requirements changed.

Sidra and I love travelling and we have spent a fair amount of time abroad across South Asia and the United Arab Emirates. We particularly love the city of Dubai and have seen many luxury developments there that are similar to Melbourne Square, in the sense that they champion the concept of mixed-use precinct living.

I think Melbourne Square is a unique project in Australia. It was certainly the first local development of its kind that lived up to the international benchmarks Sidra and I have come to expect from our exposure to other precincts around the world.

Was there anything that helped you make your decision to buy at Melbourne Square over other projects?

A: One of the key drivers that led to us making our purchase at Melbourne Square was being given the opportunity to combine two apartments into one larger living space. During this process, we worked closely with the Melbourne Square sales team to make sure everything met our requirements, and we are thrilled with the outcome we have been able to achieve.

We amalgamated two apartments finished in the light scheme featuring classic oak highlights – one single-bedroom and another two-bedroom living space – to create the three-bedroom apartment we knew we needed for our growing family.

As off-the-plan residences are usually similar, being able to combine the two apartments really gave us an opportunity to make the apartment our own.

Another great thing that is unique to the towers at the project is its selection of floorplan options. As the buildings are both oval-shaped, our apartment does not feel boxy and the full height glass windows let plenty of natural light in during the day.

What made you feel confident about your decision to buy off-the-plan at Melbourne Square?

A: To be honest, we had never purchased off-the-plan before, so it was a bit of a gamble buying at Melbourne Square.

Sidra and I were both compelled by the project’s vision to create a new hub for Southbank, and its extensive list of lifestyle amenity was enough for us to make a deal. We have not looked back since!

What are your favourite on-site facilities for residents?

A: The pool on the podium level is stunning and it is starting to become a great meeting point for residents keen to chat with new people or just hang out during the day. Having the wading pool next to the lap pool is a great idea for parents like us, particularly with little ones who are taking their first swims.

Another area Sidra and I are also very keen to get into is the resident lounge. It looks beautiful and will be an awesome space for entertaining. We are looking forward to having our friends over and showing them around.

What are your favourite things to do within walking distance from your new home?

A: Melbourne Square is great because it is a self-sufficient precinct – everything is within easy reach of your front door.

Sidra and I love to cook, so having the full-line Woolworths supermarket just downstairs is a game changer. I do not think I fully appreciated the idea and convenience of living on top of a supermarket until I experienced it myself!

Outside of the precinct, we love visiting the Boyd Community Centre’s library and soaking in some greenery while we stretch our legs during walks through the Royal Botanic Gardens.

Would you recommend living at a lifestyle precinct like Melbourne Square to friends?

A: Absolutely – Melbourne Square has something to offer everyone!
